Yet More Tulips

Last weekend we made out annual pilgrimage to the tulip fields north of Seattle.  To be honest this year was a bit of bunfight – the weather was glorious and as most of the fields had already been topped due to the early spring, it seemed like the whole of Seattle was standing round the edges of the few remaining uncut fields (note carefully cropped photos below).

But there’s still something incredibly joyous about the patchwork fields of colour and if you live in the Pacific Northwest I do highly recommend a trip out there (though not this weekend, the fields are already empty).

Is anyone working on an ‘April’ photo? I’m going to get the gallery up next week, though I still need to figure out my contribution.

More beautiful than words can express.

Beautiful child, exquisite photos. Yep, a bit drunk, make the most of it xxxx

Your girl is such a sweetie.

OMG! These fields are so beautiful. The smell must be amazing. What happens to these flowers? Here in Germany we have flower fields where you can go and get them and pay a little money to a box that stands right by the field. I do this in summer all the time as the flowers are much nicer than in the stores and the money goes to the local farmer. So I wonder what happens to that mass of tulips there....
Yes and your girl is so precious. Bet she had fun there.

These are the fields of the largest tulip bulb growers in the US.

They do produce cut flowers as well, but these fields are for bulb production and for some reason the flowers get 'topped' after blooming to ensure the best quality bulbs. I've no idea what they do with all the flower heads they cut off, the stems wouldn't be long enough for sale.

Thanks for all the compliments on the daughter, drunken and otherwise. She has her moments... :)
